Summary
Korita Landfill is the municipal waste disposal site of Bosansko Grahovo, with a dedicated concrete cell for animal waste. Preliminary testing of soil and subsoil found elevated concentrations of several metals, above the level at which soil is no longer considered clean, while no finding reached the level indicating that cleanup is needed. The general conclusion of the report is that the location requires further detailed analysis.

Findings of concern
- Cadmium and nickel were found above the level at which soil is no longer considered clean, in every soil and subsoil sample.
- In one subsoil sample zinc and chromium were above that level, and in one soil sample molybdenum.
- The landfill has no protective liner and no leachate collection system, and sits on highly permeable karst ground, so rainfall can carry contamination toward shallow groundwater.
- The fence is damaged and the access ramp is not locked, so entry to the site is possible from time to time; a weekend settlement lies nearby.
Positive findings
- No measured parameter reached the level indicating that cleanup is needed.
- Oil-related pollutants were within limits in every soil and subsoil sample.
- Pollutants associated with combustion were within limits in every sample.
- Cobalt, copper, lead and selenium were within limits in every sample.
